Before starting these I got rid of all my hard leads. Anything harder than 6B got chucked. Then I realized, other than charcoal pencils, I didn't have anything softer than 6B. So I went out and got me some 8Bs along with one pencil that was simply labeled "dark".
So, without getting into the charcoal pencils, I am building up the darks with those darker leads. I've tried to mix charcoal pencils with soft lead pencils in drawings in the past and was never happy with the results, so I'm staying away from that mixture.
Both of these look a bit different in color from the previous post and that is mostly because I used a different scanner this go-round.
