Tennis As Art - Part 3

Following along with the theme of tennis as subject matter, here is a painting I’ve done, simply using some tennis balls. As you can see I’ve scrapped trying to emulate the style of favorite illustrators on this more recent piece, and I’m now going for a more painterly “fine art” look:

"Two on Top", oil on canvas, 5x7

This painting is a good reminder to myself of how challenging the set-up stage can be of even the most simple still life. Probably a product of there being so many possible compositions for these subjects in a 5x7 format.

This is where the "thumbnail" sketch comes in handy. Set the thing up, light it, sketch it in under two minutes, and decide if the composition works or not.
